Woman who was working, but is now BREAKING...

WOW!!! Two posts back to back...WHEW...sometimes I scare myself!!
Please don't get used to this and expect this to happen on a regular basis...'cause I can tell you right now...I WON'T!!!

OK...soooo...the reason I am posting again soooooo soon is because I owe two women a GREAT SUPER BIG THANKS for helping me make my blog look Quita-licious. These two ladies are Teresabelle and Jeanette. Who knows where I would be had I not found them!! I found Teresa first, on YouTube. It was her video tutorial that taught me how to change my background, a task I had been working on for MONTHS. Under her tutelage...I was able to do it in less that 3 hours (the Viv in me is why it took 3 hours instead of 20 minutes). After I changed it...I posted the following comment on her blog:

You are a SAINT!!! You have no idea how happy I am that I found you on YouTube!! I was about to pay someone at least $30.00 to do this for me...thank God I found you!! You are without a doubt my new shero--hero with ovaries!! Now...if you could tell me how to add a dedicated box to my blog where I can post/change/update my contests (sorta a blog within a blog)...I would rename at least two of my kids after you...I promise!!

Well...Teresa, being the wonderful person that she is...posted a reply comment on my blog post Woman at WORK. In her comment she answered all of my questions and gave me links to some sites to help me. By the time I got her comment, I had already figured out the three columns thingy...

Sooooo...Although she was VERY helpful...She did not help me enough to justify me renaming two of my kids after her...So I just renamed one. I hope that you can forgive me Teresa?? (quick prayer: Dear Lord, You know that I always try to be a woman of my word...if I say I am going to do something...I try as hard as possible to do it. I know that you sent Teresabelle into my life to guide me out of the wilderness of blogland and she has shown me soooooo much...PLEASE let her be happy with just one of my children named after her...please... ~amen)

Ladies and gentlemen...appearing here for the first time ever...I would like for you to meet "The child formerly know as Nicole, Currently known as Teresabelle, Jr:"
Thanks again Teresa...I owe you!!! (I still have another child who is currently nameless...if you insist...I could change her name too...just let me know)

Allllrigggghty...now let's talk about Ms. Jeanette...She too is my shero!! This woman can do ANYTHING!! It is through Jeanette's Jedi wisdom that I have been able to accomplish soooooo much in such a short period of time. Jeanette has tutorials on her website for things that I would have never thought of unless I had seen/read about them on her blog.

Whereas Teresa led me out of the wilderness...Jeanette is leading me into the promised land...a land flowing with custom tabs and cute little signatures!! So Jeanette...it is with great pleasure that I rename two of my children after you:

This is "The boy formerly known as Alexander, Currently known as Jeanette, Jr #1"

And this is "The little girl formerly known as Naomi, currently known as Jeanette, Jr #2"

Ladies...I do not know where I would be without your help!! Thanks for all that you have done/shared and for all that you will continue to do to help me and others...

Don't y'all just LOVE that cute little signature??? I sure do!!

Sorry...I'm Baaaaack...

Hi all,

I owe you guys a HUGE apology...I have not blogged in FOREVER!!! I just want to let you all know why I have not been around.

About a month and a half ago my 11 year old son Alexander was given the opportunity of a lifetime!! He was recommended to audition for a play at Warren Central High School. Well, he auditioned and he got the part!! Needless to say...We were all VERY excited. The rehearsal schedule was fine up until last week and I could still squeeze a post or two in, but last week...that all changed.

Last week we had dress rehearsal from 5:00pm until 9:30pm Monday(3/9) through Wednesday(3/11). Now, in and of itself, dress rehearsal is not what kept me busy. What kept me BUSY were the meals that we provided on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday for the cast and crew. We fed 40 people each night. Can you imagine?? Cooking for six people is hard enough...cooking for 40 was a little intimidating, to say the least. When I cook for my family, it's easy, because I know what they like. Cooking for 40 people that you have only been around for five weeks is SCARY beyond belief! And, to make matters worse, these were 40 people age 18 and younger! Now we all know how fickled young folks can be...

Well...let me tell you...these were the most MANNERABLE, RESPECTFUL and WONDERFUL young men and women that I have ever had the pleasure of meeting!! They were grateful for EVERYTHING that we did for them. It was AMAZING!!! I thank God for their families and for them. They have renewed my faith in the youth of today!! I went in with very few expectations and came out IMPRESSED beyond measure. I do TRULY hope and pray that my children grow up to be as well mannered, talented and appreciative as they were/are.

I would like to thank EVERYONE who was affiliated with this production for allowing me and my son to be a part of it. In particular I would like to thank Gabe for giving Alexander this opportunity and Angie for letting me help her with the food.

For me to say that this is an experience that I will never forget...is an understatement. This is an experience that I will ALWAYS remember and replay in my mind. It is an experience that has given me GREAT joy and pleasure. It was an experience that has shown me that there are some truly wonderful young people still left in this world!!

It is not uncommon to turn on the television and see a story about a young man/woman who has murdered a parent or a sibling or went on a killing rampage in their high school. These stories get soooooo much press/air time that one often forgets that there are young adults out there who are doing the right thing. I just wanted to take this opportunity to share with you my experiences with a REMARKABLE group of young-uns' who are focused, determined, college bound, inspiring, EXTREMELY gifted/talented, respectful and awe inspiring (quick prayer: Dear Lord, thank You for allowing me to experience these beautiful children. Through them my faith in mankind has been renewed. Please Lord be with each and every one of them forever and always. Please Lord keep them focused on their goals and help the realize that with You and You ONLY...ALL things are possible. Dear Lord, I am crying now...so I think I had better say amen and be done before I short out my keyboard with my tears...I am such a baby...~amen).

The play, A Raisin in the Sun, opened on Thursday, March 12, 2009...and it was a HUGE success!! From the first word to the last, we were transformed into the past. We were moved!! These young men and women put on a Tony award winning performance!! They were so committed to their roles that the words just came naturally. This play was a labor of their love of theatre and their love/respect for their director. The play was so good that I forgot that this was a high school production! Each actor truly owned and embraced his/her character. Lorraine Hansberry and Sidney Poitier would have been proud!

It would be hard for me to pick out one character in particular as the "star," but being a mama myself...I would have to say that Ms. C. Williams was an AWESOME Lena Younger. She was TRULY the glue that held her family together!! Mr. I. Miles was Walter Lee and his wife Ruth was played by Ms. S. Penny. They acted just like an "old" married couple!! Benetha was played by Angie's girl Ms. T. Watkins (the African dancing was a sight to behold). Young mister Travis was played by my boy Alexander (as loud as this child is at home, we could barely hear him on stage). Karl Lindner was played by Mr. B. Bowers (he made discrimination seem almost pleasant). Mr. A. Snowden played the part of Joseph Asagai and he had the BEST accent EVER!! Mr. J. L. Lancaster played George Murchinson (LOVED the spray painted white shoes J.L.) and Bobo was played by Mr. M. McCaskill (he did his final performance on crutches, talk about being dedicated...). The three moving men were played by Mr. D. Peloney, Mr. C. Mills and Mr. X. Ingram ( I have never seen boxes moved so wonderfully in my whole life).

Although I spent most of my time with the cast...there were some TOTALLY AWESOME crew members too. This production could not been successful without them. All of the acting in the world is no good without proper costumes, lighting, sound, props and a set. Thanks guys and girls. A play is only as good as its behind the scenes crew...in my NEVER to be humble opinion.

Remember these names...because I truly believe that there is MUCH more to come from them in the future! They are the Engineers, Doctors and Lawyers of tomorrow. Thanks be to God for the opportunity to be able to say, "I knew them when..."

~Marquita

PS. GH...PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE do not leave WC until after Travis has graduated in 2016...PLEASE???? I know that seems like FOREVER, but really it's not. You know what they say, "Time flies when you are having fun," and I know for sure that you are having FUN!!

Response to a Comment...

I got this from a comment made on my post titled: I finally did it... on 1/12/09. Read below as I respond:

Vivian Smith said...
You are a very smart young lady.

All thanks be to God...

I love your blog.
Thanks...I hope to get a loyal following and one day take over the world!! (quick prayer: Dear Lord...is world domination wrong?? PLEASE advise ASAP...as I have already implemented phase one of my plan! ~amen)

Where do you get such great ideas? Is it in the genes?
I get my inspiration form being CHEAP!!! And yes, CHEAP is in my genes...You should meet my mom and ESPECIALLY my brother (who has yet to make a comment on my blog) (quick prayer: Dear Lord when I do take over the world...if, and only if You let me, of course...would it be wrong to torture my brother?? I have the perfect plan...I would give him
$4,306,498, 973.45 and make him spend it in 5 hours. If he did not spend it all in the allotted time...He would then be forced to go on the road and live with Carnies (carnival workers) traveling from small town to small town, living on fried food and sleeping in a trailer. Lord considering all of the things I could do to him...I feel like this is fair punishment. Lord help him see the light...all he has to do to escape my wrath is to make a comment or two...is that too much to ask of my only brother?? ~amen)

Your children sound like fun and no dull moments.
Now that's the understatement of the CENTURY...They are always into something!!

I bet you have some very proud parents.
I suspect they are pretty proud of me...although I am pretty sure that they think my biggest accomplishment was giving them grandchildren but they seem to be proud of my other accomplishments too (quick prayer: Dear Lord, thank You for my Momma and Daddy. ~amen).

I subscribed to your blog and am looking forward to getting the updates.
Well...PLEASE tell all of your friends about it and have them to subscribe too. I need as many subscribers as possible for world domination...

Have you ever made blue jean purses?
Funny you should ask...

Let me know how that went.
It went...and now it is GONE...perhaps to return one day!!

God really is very good to us.
Yes, He is...

Pray without ceasing!!!! Vivian S. -- Nash.,Tenn
Rejoice evermore...

I am sooooooo SORRY...

To say that I have been busy...would be the UNDERSTATEMENT of the year...

Friday was SUPPOSED to be a two hour delay day...well...it turned into a snow day...UGGGHHH!!! By the GRACE of God...we survived it...barely!! We left the house at about 11:00am and did not get home until 6:30pm. Now, for most normal children that would have been enough excitement for one day! But noooo...not for my kids...on the way home they wanted to know:

A. "What's for dinner??..." and before I could answer that question..."Yeah Mommy...what is for dinner?? Can we have pizza...no, how about chips and dip?? Nooo...I got it, how 'bout we go out to eat?'' To this the other two replied, "Yeah Mommy...let's just go out to eat!!" I let them ramble for about 15 minutes and then I replied: "Yeah...let's go out to dinner...I want Olive Garden...." (at this point they were confused by the fact that I was agreeing with them, and then I went in for the KILL...)"So...since all of you got money for Christmas...Who's paying??" Miraculously...EVERYONE was convinced that we had plenty to eat at home. (note to parents: with a little thought...we REALLY can outsmart them)

B. "What are we gonna do when we get home?" I almost fainted...I was EXHAUSTED and they had the nerve to ask me that?? I let them talk for about 15 minutes (15 minutes seems to be a crucial amount of time in the life of a child). Of course each of them had the "best idea ever." I overheard one suggest that we go to Blockbuster. One wanted to play Dance, Dance Revolution and the little one wanted to build a tent in the loft. I wanted to go to SLEEP. Well, after 15 minutes, I suggested that we do one of two things..."1. Have a hot shower/bath, eat a hot meal and watch TV or 2. GO TO BED." Well....mama didn't raise no fools...Almost in unison they said..."Let's go home take a shower, put on some warm pj's, eat dinner and watch TV." God, I LOVE it when a plan comes together...don't you?? (quick prayer: Lord, this actually worked!! Please Lord, PLEASE let it work again...thank You in advance, 'cause I know that with You, all things are possible...Is it possible that this can happen again?? ~amen)

Friday ended on a lovely note...Now Saturday was a horse of a different color...

Saturday, EVERYONE was bored...me included and we had nothing to do except...HOUSE WORK!! That worked out well. Four of my five bathrooms got cleaned and the twins vacuumed all of upstairs. (quick prayer: Lord, please don't let CPS (child protective service) find out that I make my kids work, in my house...where they live for FREE, eat up ALL of my food and where I do their laundry for FREE... Dear Lord somewhere along the way things got twisted and children now have rights...well most children have rights, mine waived their rights when the were born. ~amen) (note to parents: if your children have rights...you might want to revoke them before they learn about CPS.)

Well, after we finished cleaning...we started a craft. We made winter hats out of fleece, fabric paint and fabric glue. (I started that post on Saturday and have not added the pictures to it yet. So I have not posted it. When I post it remember that I wrote it before this post, otherwise you might get a little confused by my references to events and times.)

The craft went OK...you will have to wait for the post to get the details...

Sunday morning at about 1:30am I was lying in bed sound asleep with visions of sugar plums dancing in my pretty little head when I felt a presence...I felt it long before I opened my eyes, I was trying to wish it away, no such luck...I felt it LONG before I heard what had to be a sound VERY similar to that of the gates of Hell opening... This most horrific sound was coming from my dear sweet 11 year old daughter, Nicole. She was standing beside my bed, in the dark, carrying a trash can and tossing her cookies!! EEEWWWW!!! YUCK!!!!! This child was making sounds that only Satan himself could replicate. She was SICK!! I mean REALLY sick...not Nicole sick (she has been known to exaggerate illness for personal gain/sympathy).

She was up about every 30-45 minutes vomiting. She came and slept on the couch in the loft so that I could hear her every wretched heave. Lucky me! (this may or may not have been payback for me out smarting her in the car on Friday (see above for details)). Well, needless to say...neither she nor I got much sleep. Alexander, her twin brother, woke up at 9:00am on Saturday and began his reign of terror! He started out with a stomach ache which soon became "cookie tossing extraordinaire." He felt the need to get up and come find me, no matter where I was in the house, to tell me that his stomach was hurting and that he was about to throw up. Just what I needed...a play, by play...Lucky me! EEEWWWW!!!

He was sick until about 8:00pm, at which time he began to feel better. Nicole was still in agony and by now she also had gastrointestinal issues as well. When it rains, it runs and pours! Welcome to my world!!

Is anyone wondering where my other two children were while all of this was going on?? Well Naomi (Age 5), was helping me take care of everyone. Noel (age 6), who very well might be the smartest person in our house, went into the guest room, stood in the doorway, waved goodbye, closed the door and cut on the TV. She only came out when it was time for her to eat.

Note: While all of this was happening, I was busy trying to figure out the best way to keep everyone else from getting sick. This is when I had the BEST idea of my life...Lysol. I had them cover up their faces and hold their breath while I sprayed Lysol on them in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost. To say that I was desperate to keep everyone else from getting sick, is an UNDERSTATEMENT. (quick prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for protecting my children...especially from me. I ALWAYS mean well, but sometimes I get a little desperate and...well...I...uhmmm...spray Lysol on them...Is that a sin?? ~amen)

I will not bore you with the details of the rest of our weekend, nor will I tell you about what happened on Monday when I went into OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder) mode and did 5 heads of hair and cleaned all 4,000+ square feet of my house... 'cause that would be overkill.

So...I said all of the above to say...I was a little bit busy this weekend and PROMISE to post something in the next 2 days...

Almost ready...

I am almost ready to list my first craft project...

This blog is like crack...HIGHLY addictive...I have been deliberating over what to post since my last entry. Funny ain't it...I went from "fear of nothing to post" to "tooooo many ideas and not sure what to post first." So, while I ponder this quandary in which I find myself...I thought I would share with you this email from my mostly cyber friend Carla (we have only met in person one time about 2 years ago). It is one of those "How have I have lived ___ years without knowing this?" emails...

I had to go into the kitchen and check this out for myself. Whoever looks at the end of your aluminum foil/saran wrap box? You know when you try to pull some foil out and the roll comes out of the box. Then you have to put the roll back in the box and start over. The darn roll always comes out at the wrong time. Well, I would like to share this with you. Yesterday I went to throw out an empty Reynolds foil box and for some reason I turned it and looked at the end of the box. And written on the end was, "Press here to lock end." Right there on the end of the box is a tab to lock the roll in place. How long has this little locking tab been there? I then looked at a generic brand of aluminum foil and it had one, too. I then looked at a box of Saran wrap and it had one too! I can't count the number of times the Saran wrap roll has jumped out when I was trying to cover something up. I'm sharing this with my friends. I hope I'm not the only person that didn't know about this.

OK...how many of you went to look in your pantries after reading this to check your boxes??? How many of you found out that this was true??? How many of you said to yourself or a loved one..."How have I lived ___ years without knowing this?" PLEASE post a comment and let me know...I have made it almost 39 years without this knowledge and my husband...a few months over 50 years...There is a lesson to be learned here...Stop and smell the roses, but only after you have read the box. (quick prayer: Dear Lord, let them all heed my sage advice: "Smell the roses after you read the box." ~amen)

Uggghhh....

It is 6:48am and I am on the verge of a full fledged panic attack...I just hat the scariest thought ever..."Have I lost my mind?? I don't craft enough to do a blog!! Lord help me...PLEASE!!...Deep breath in, slow breath out...Deep breath in sloooooowwww breeeeeath out..."

It is 6:49 now and I have just started a load of my husbands laundry, using the liquid laundry detergent that I made...

It is 6:51 now and I am on my way downstairs to refrigerate the half gallon of banilla (vanilla & banana) yogurt that I made last night...

It is 6:55 now and I am about to pack my daughter's lunch in the duct tape lunch bag that I made for her...

It is 7:10 now and I am about to get dressed and put on the sterling silver and crystal earrings that I made...

"Breathe in...breathe out...breathe in...breathe out...good...in...out...in...out...Whew..."

OK...I have calmed down now and I have realized three things:

1. I do more stuff before 8:00am than most people do in a day,
2. I have interrupted the well-oiled machine that is my morning routine to blog this, and...
3. I have PLENTY of stuff to blog about...

Gotta Jet...

~Marquita

PS: My dilemma now..."What should I write about first?" Stay tuned to find out...

Oops...I'm Doin it Again...

Day 2...Post 2

First...a little house keeping...
After EXTENSIVE and EXHAUSTIVE research, trial and MUCH error...you can now subscribe to my blog via email!!! (quick prayer: Thank you Jesus!!) Look to the left and then SUBSCRIBE...please, pretty please with sugar on top??

Ok, the house is clean...now back to blogging

Where did I leave off yesterday??? I can barley remember what I was doing 10 seconds ago... Oh yeah...I was telling you about me. Well...actually...I already told you all of the stuff that you need to know...so let's move on to something else, shall we?

Being the craft addict that I am, you will find a lot of different types of crafts here, including, but not limited to, home improvement/furniture restoration/painting, paper crafts, recycling projects, sewing and, yes, even hair care related posts. As a woman of color, with three daughters, I am ALWAYS in pursuit of a new do' for my girls. So I will also use this blog to highlight my hair crafting skills too...

I guess that now would be the time for a TRUE CONFESSION...Unfortunately...I have VERY FEW original ideas. I am almost ashamed to admit it, but it's true. My main claim to fame is that I am CHEAP and being cheap is what keeps me crafting. Anything that I see that I want, if it costs more than $3.68...I, usually, will NOT buy it. But I will spend $30.00 on supplies so that I can make 200 of them, even though I might only want/need three of them...that would be another symptom of ADHACD (quick prayer: Dear Lord, please deliver me from this obsessive/compulsive behavior...not any time soon...but one day...maybe?).

Whew!!! A HUGE burden has been lifted...You now know my crafty little secret...I fell soooo FREE!!! (quick prayer: Please Lord let them not think less of me...I promise to give credit where credit is due and to provide links to EVERY idea that I copy, I really do...).

Ok...I think I have said enough...Until I post again...

~Marquita

PS: Count ALL mistakes as LOVE...I had some formatting errors and perhaps a few syntax errors on my first post...but....Like a fine wine...I promise to get better with time!!

PPS: Is anyone, besides me, wondering when I am going to post an actual craft/project? Hopefully this weekend...I have a few cards that I have made for my kid's birthday parties. I might start with those and then work my way up to bigger and better things...

I finally did it...

Hi All and Welcome to my little corner of the information super highway...

I finally did it...I have decided to start my very own blog!! (quick prayer: Please Lord let this NOT be a mistake) My hope is that you will find it most enjoyable and helpful.

Before I tell you more about the blog, let me tell you a little bit about me!!
I have been married for 14 years and I have 4 children (I would use the word "wonderful" to describe them...but I'm not...some days "yes" today..."not so much")-3 girls(11, 6 & 5) and one son(11, poor boy). I have been crafting the majority of my life but have just recently (last 7 years) become ADDICTED...I guess that you could say I have a sock monkey on my back...Unfortunately, I am a compulsive crafter...I have the world's first documented case of ADHACD (Attention Deficit Hyper Active Crafting Disorder). Regretfully, to date there is no medication available and since I don't drink or use illicit street drugs....I can't even self medicate!! What to do...What to do?

The symptoms of ADHACD varies among individuals but the most common and wide spread symptoms are:

1.) EXCESSIVE amounts of craft supplies located in MANY different areas of your house (see pictures). Currently, with the exception of my bathrooms (which is where I like to keep my crafting reading materials), EVERY room/closet in my house contains some item that I have either crafted with, am currently crafting with or am making plans to craft with in the VERY near future.

Exhibit 2-Junk/Supplies in Library. This is one of MANY baskets.

Exhibit 3--Junk/Supplies in Guest Room closet. I dare not show you what's in the chest of drawers or what's under the bed.

2.)You stay up ALL night long crafting. This one is self explanatory...if you don't get it...this is NOT the blog for you. ADHACD sufferers know exactly what I am talking about.

3.) You spend countless hours online looking for new craft's/craft supplies/crafting instructions. Thanks be to God for high speed Internet!!

4.) You are greeted by name by EVERY employee at Michael's, Hobby Lobby, Jo Ann's and in the craft/sewing department at EVERY Walmart within 30 miles of your house, no matter what time of day/night you go. I am ashamed to say how far I have driven for 45mm squiggly eyes. And if I ever find Diamond Glaze within a 100 mile radius...I am planning a road trip! Lord forbid I spend $12 bucks plus $6.95 for shipping and handling to order it online, when I can spent $30 worth of gas and 4 hours worth of time to go and buy it...and possibly...maybe...pick up some other supplies that I don't really need but can talk myself into them because one day I MIGHT need them.

Just in case you were unsure or trying to give me the benefit of the doubt...Yes, I have a problem...A VERY SERIOUS problem...A problem that I would not trade for all of the chocolate in Hershey, PA and Switzerland combined!!

Well...I think I have bored you enough for the day...Good Night...I will continue this real soon...
